Street violence - diversion tactic?

There is escalating fear among the Maldivian population as street violence in the capital city appears to have gone out of control. In response the government has decided to send out onto the streets men in uniform from the National Defense Force. Some claim these gangs are politically fuelled and this is a clever diversion tactic of the Maldivian government.

Whilst people fear for their families’ safety they are distracted from the crucial debates going on in Parliament. As decisions on the crucial transitional chapter are decided upon people are understandably thinking only about the personal security of themselves and their families amid the rising number of murders, attacks and street battles.

The current climate brings into question whether the forthcoming elections will be free, fair and violence-free. Furthermore, it calls for people to return attention to the Majilis, where decisions can be made so that a safer society can be ensured in the future.

What are your thoughts on this issue? Who is responsible for the violence on the streets in the Maldives? How are people feeling about their personal security in their homes and on the streets? And, what can be done to raise awareness about the importance of the decisions that are being made in Parliament, so that people understand that these decisions will make a difference to their future lives in the Maldives?

what's happening in Male today is not new. We are made to believe that it's gang violence. i don't beleave that. The 'GANGS' in Male don't care what is going on in the parliment, but the Gangs seem to somehow attack the opposition every time there is an issue that threatens Gayoom. This is organized by his family and cronies who live above the law. I still remember the 'BIMBI ' force. Its the same thing thats happening in Male today. Young people are given drugs and Booze to go and attack people who are against the regime.

I blame the current government for all these GANG fights, or rather the TERRORIST attacks.

ONLY reason why we cant achieve this with GOLHAABO's government is that because GOLHAABO is the one arranging these fights and also our head of national defence/cops are backing these THUGS.

If the government cant maintian peace, law and order within the country I request GOLHAABO to resign immediately and hand over the country to us.

WE THE PUBLIC CAN CLEAR THE SHIT WITHIN NO TIME.

Wats happening in male is crazy, its concern for your personal safety both inside and outside your home.If you go out its danger from the gangs and the horn tooting motorcycle gangs. The sick and the youg inside homes suffer the same rauma because of these horn tooting gangs.I believe we the citizenry has to stand together and say no to these antisocial behaviours and say enough is enough. Just waiting for someone tu fix this would be an endles wait. We the citizen should organise ourselves and we can stop this ! God bless us all

I as a citizen of the Maldives, urge the current ruler of this lovely nation to resign immediately and not to worry how the successor is going to run the show as he or she will certainly do a better job, given the seat in less than 30 years and there is no boubt about that in the minds of our people

Dear Editor,
Last night I posted my comment and apparently you have decided not to publish it as, maybe I didnot sound radically Maumoon bashing and calling for his resignation.
So sad that you all are also undemocratic by not respecting and tolerating the opinions of those who do not want to be aggressively against the present regime.
If you are democratic I dare you to publish my comment.
Hussain.

Every citizen who resides in Male is afraid with the ongoing violence. In my own stance there are two fold for this. I didnt beleive that the government should solely be responsible for this and its not the only prescription for the issue to sentence our youngsters into jail. First, I would say that the parents of the children who invloved in these should be able to discipline there children. If they are unable to discipline their children there concerned departments within the government to assist them in giving counselling and other aids to help these victims. Secondly, government should also promote the issue seriously within our community. Its not adequate just to announce the number of criminals by news or in press conferences. They should take more actions to meet with the families of these childrens who involved in these violences, they should implement programs to aware the general public.

Howdy! Quick question that's entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My blog looks weird when browsing from my iphone 4. I'm
trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to fix this issue.
If you have any recommendations, please share. Appreciate it!
